CASA HAPPENINGS!!!!

March 2008

We are in the third month of the year and this is the month of Saint Patrick's Day.  We are going to participate in the upcoming Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Texas.  It is going to be 3-15-08.  We will be riding in the parade and we will have an informational booth set up to recruit volunteers.  If any of you are interested in participating please contact the office and let me know.  There will also be a car show that our newest volunteers, Glen and Elaine Smith have set up. This is going to be one of our fundraisers for this year.  If you have any questions please let me know.

  Advocate of The Month

I am very pleased to announce the new Advocate of the Month as Pat McCain.  Pat has been with CASA for 2 years and is working on 2 cases at this time.  She has put in over 198 hours and 1650 miles.  Thank you for all you do.  We appreciate all you efforts.

Training

We have sworn in 2 new advocates.  Glen Smith and Mercedes Stermolle.  We will be swearing in Elaine Smith after she completes her court room observation hours.   If you have not had a chance to meet these wonderful people you need to do so.

Helping Hearts

We will be having a Helping Hearts training soon.  If any of you are interested please contact Cristie Campbell @ 254-965-6610 or cristie@casacta.org.  We will be posting the date and time at a later date. CASA for the Cross Timbers Area, Inc. has initiated a volunteer program to assist the advocates on their assigned cases.  A Helping Heart can be the spouse or close friend of the advocate.  On a case by case basis, they may interact with the children on visits with the advocate or with the parents or relatives associated with the case.  The Helping Heart is in no way a part of the case.  All correspondences regarding the case should be directed to the advocate only.  Other duties a Helping Heart may assist with could be proofreading CASA court reports for grammatical errors, discussing case with the advocate, delivering case file information to the advocate, taking more detailed phone messages for the advocate, and attending court hearings as a bystander.
